Beidh an scoil ag dúnadh ag 2.00 ar an gCéadaoin de réir socrú a deineadh roimh Chomhaontú Pháirc an Chrócaigh ach ag dúnadh ag 2.15, mar is gnáth, Déardaoin 20 Samhain.
We’re having our Parent/Teacher meetings for Rang 1-6 Wednesday Thursday 19th 20th November. The school will close at 2 pm on Wednesday 19th but at 2.15 as usual on Thursday 20th.

Céilí na Samhna
D’eagraigh Coiste na dTuismitheoirí Céilí na Samhna roimh an mbriseadh. Bhí caighdeán an-ard leis an bhfeisteas bréige ar an oíche. Buíochas leis an gCoiste, na ceoltóirí agus Niamh Uí Chroidheáin mar Bhean a’ Tí. Buíochas le Comhaltas C É as ligint dúinn an halla a úsáid.

Coiste na dTuismitheoirí organised a very enjoyable Céilí before the Halloween Break. The trajectory of the fancy dress is ever upwards. Well done to all involved. Thanks to Comhaltas (as against Ceoltas) for letting us use their hall.

Gaeilge
Buíochas as an nGaeilge a labhairt timpeall na scoile. Tá sé an-tábhachtach dúinn leanúint leis seo.
Thanks to all for making the effort to speak Irish around the school. It’s very important. Scoil Lorcáin is almost unique in the amount of Irish spoken by parents. So let’s keep it up. Beatha teanga í a labhairt.

Craobh Peile
Comhghairdeas leis na buachaillí ar an bhFoireann Shinsireach Peile a bhuaigh Sciath Mhic Caoilte i bPáirc an Chrócaigh roimh an mbriseadh. Buíochas le Donnchadh Mac Aogáin, Cuán Ó Flatharta agus Bríd Firtéar as a gcuid dúthrachta leis an bhfoireann. Traenáil trodaíochta gach Céadaoin cailíní R4-6 agus buachaillí Déardaoin.
Well done to pupils and teachers on the Senior Football team who beat an excellent St. Anne’s team from Shankill in a superb final in Croke Park before the break. Thanks to all who supported. Stick-fighting season is now upon us, with training for girls Rang 4-6 every Wednesday and boys Thursday.

Taisteal ar scoil
Míle buíochas le gach duine atá ag cabhrú linn laghdú a dhéanamh ar an méid gluaisteán timpeall ar an scoil. Tá sibh go hiontach ar fad. Moladh mór speisialta do na páistí atá ag siúl, rothaíocht, scútaráil is rl. Déanaimís cúram agus muid ag páirceáil ar Bhr. Alma, lbdt.

A big thanks to all for helping in our efforts to reduces traffic around the school. Special thanks to those using leg power to come to school. We’ve received a first ever complaint about a driveway being blocked on Alma Road. Please, let’s be careful out there.

8.35 – 2.15
Is iad 8.35 – 2.15 amanna oifigiúla oscailte na scoile. Iarraimid ar thuismitheoirí gan teacht isteach sa scoil roimh 8.35 muna bhfuil coinne acu le múinteoir. Níl sé ceart go leor teacht isteach chun ‘focal tapaidh’ a bheith agat le múinteoir. Go raibh maith agaibh as cabhrú linn leis seo.
School times ar 8.35 – 2.15. We ask parents not to come in to the school outside those times. Specifically, please don’t come in before 8.35 to talk to a teacher without a prior appointment being made.

Lá Naomh Lorcán
Cheiliúramar Lá Naomh Lorcán ar an Aoine 14 Samhain le Seirbhís bheag sa halla do Rang 1-6. Fuair gach páiste sa scoil peann luaidhe mar bhronntanas beag do lá.

We celebrated our patron saint’s day Lá Fhéile Naomh Lorcán Friday 14th November with a Prayer Service in the hall for Rang 1-6. Every child was given a pencil as a small present, to represent Naomh Lorcán’s, and our own, interest in learning.

Seachtain Tógála
Táimid chun Seachtain Tógála a bheith againn an tseachtain seo chughainn 24 – 28 Samhain. Tá sé i gceist againn go mbeadh an halla leagtha amach do ghrúpaí le bheith ag tógáil. Tá roinnt fearais againn ach níl go leor. Ba mhaith linn go leor fearais a bheith againn. Is féidir é a thabhairt dúinn le coimeád nó le tabhairt d’Aonach na Nollag tar éis na seachtaine nó ar iasacht (ach nach bhfuil aon gheallúint go bhfaighfeá gach píosa beag ar ais). Is féidir é a thabhairt isteach chuig Oifig na Scoile, má tá tú sásta. ( Duais speisialta dóibh siúd a fheiceann 4 spreagadh fo-Luimníoch sa Nuachtlitir.)
Mecano
Knex
Lego
Geo-Magnetics (that stuff with the bar magnets and metal balls)
We would like to have a Construction Week (Maths/Science/Craft) next week 24th – 28th November. Our plan is to lay out construction material like those toys listed above for the classes to work with. We don’t have enough of this material in school and are looking for your help. You could give it to us to keep, to pass on to Aonach na Nollag after the week or on loan (no guarantee that you will get every piece back). If you have something else that you think would be appropriate bring it in, please. Can you spot 4 subliminal image messages hidden in the Nuachtlitir?

Polasaí Tinrimh agus Beartas Frithbhulaíochta
Ghlac an Bord leis an bPolasí Tinrimh agus leis an mBeartas Frithbhulaíochta le déanaí. Crochfar ar an suíomh idirlín go luath é. Buíochas leis an líon beag daoine a sheol tuairimí isteach.
The Board of Management adopted the Attendance Policy and Anti-Bullying Policy circulted recently. Both will be posted on the website. Thanks to the small number who gave feedback.

Forbairt na Scoile
Tá an obair ag dul ar aghaidh. Tá na hurláir stroighin leagtha síos ar an gcéad leibhéal anois agus na fallaí le hardú. Beidh obair ag tosú i gClós na Naíonán an tseachtain seo ar an seomra coire nua a thógáil don scoil nua. Beidh cuid den chlós dúnta orainn. Leanfar nósanna sábháltachta go cruinn. Beidh obair ar siúl istigh sa scoil ó 2.30 in ar aghaidh, chomh maith, agus na píopaí a thabharfaidh an teas chuig na seomraí nua á rith tríd an scoil.
Work continues apace,on our development project, with not too much disruption to school life. The concrete floors for the first level have been poured. Work will start this week in Clós na Naíonán on the new boiler house which will heat the new school. Pipes will also be run over the coming weeks through the school to heat the new rooms when we move in in March 2015. We will have to reconfigure the layout of the línte in the morning. We’ll all have to be a little more patient and loving. Thanks for your help and co-operation to date.

Cairdeas/Frithbhulaíocht
Táimid chun feachtas beag Cairdis/Frithbhulaíochta a eagrú mar go bhfuil beart 6 phóstaer Gaeilge leis na teachtaireachtaí thíos faighte againn.
1. Bígí go deas le chéile.
2. Ní binn béal ina thost.
3. An bhfuil duine ar bith ag cur isteach ort?
4. Scríobh go dearfach i gcónaí.
5. Cén duine acu seo tusa? Níl sé ceart ná cóir.
6. Ná tabhair freagra ar bhulaíocht ar líne.
Beidh trí seachtaine againn roimh an Nollaig agus trí seachtaine ina dhiaidh.
We’re going to have a modest Friendship/Anti-bullying Strand in the school using lovely Irish posters published recently. We’re going to emphasise one message a week, three before Christmas and 3 after in this order:
1. Be nice to eachother.
2. Don’t be afraid to speak out.
3. Is anybody upsetting you?
4. Always write positively.
5. Which of these people is you? This isn’t right.
6. Don’t answer online bullying.
Parents can help by taking time to discuss these topics at home.

An Ceoldráma, tv show, which features Scoil Lorcáin pupils and In. Uí Labhairí being repeated in December on TG4.

Teicneolaíocht
Cheannaíomar 4 i-Pad roinnt seachtainí ó shin. Tá an-úsáid á baint astu sa Tacaíocht Oideachais, agus mar sin, táimid chun 4 cinn eile a fháil le n-úsáid sa scoil trí chéile (ach nach bhfuil an scoil trína chéile, ar chor ar bith). Táimid chun 16 ríomhaire glúine déag eile a fháil, chun cur leis an 14 atá againn faoi láthair do na daltaí ionas go mbeidh ceann do gach páiste sa ranga, no go leor le gur féidir le dhá rang obair leo ag an am céanna, ag roinnt ríomhaire idir gach beirt.
The 4 i-pads we bought some weeks ago have been in constant use by the Learning Support team. Therefore we have decided to invest in 4 more for school use in general. We’re also purchasing 16 new laptops to add to the 16 we already have for pupils so that we can have 2 classes working with laptops at any one time (sharing one between every two pupils) ar have a laptop for every child in class at other times.

Fan Slán Fógra ó Lucht a dhéanta
The process of updating and revising the Stay Safe programme for primary schools is well advanced at this stage and a new programme should be ready for schools by September 2015. As we would like to get as much feedback as possible about the programme, we are continuing our online survey for parents here . We would be obliged if you would put these links on your school website or include details of the survey in your next newsletter. Alternatively you could direct parents or teachers to the Stay Safe website www.staysafe.ie where they can also complete the survey.
