Is iad seo thuas na heochairfhocail atá againn nuair atáimid ag caint leis na páistí.
The three words above (Irish, Behaviour, Work) are our key words when we’re talking to the children at Monday morning’s Tionól.
Beidh an obair fhorbartha ag tosú Luan 22 Meán Fómhair. Beidh réamhobair ag tosú Luan 15 Meán Fómhair agus deireadh leis an gClós Mór do na daltaí ón am sin ar aghaidh. Is iontach an scéal é seo ach is am an-dúshlánach a bheidh anseo do phobal na scoile idir pháistí, mhúinteoirí agus thuismitheoirí. Is am dúshlánach a bheidh ann, chomh maith, do mhuintir na háite agus caithfimid iad sin a thógaint san áireamh. Iarraimid ar gach duine a bheith foighneach, tuisceanach le linn na hoibre. Beidh cabhair agus tacaíocht uainn ó gach duine sna míonna amach romhainn.
Our re-development is due to begin Monday 22nd September. Preparotry works begin Monday 15th. We will not have use of the Clós Mór from that day. It’s great news, but daunting. It’s be a challenging time for all of us. It will certainly be a challenging time for local residents. We’re asking everyody to be extra patient and extra understanding during this period. We’ll need everybody’s help.
Is i gcúrsaí taistil ar scoil atá ceann de na slite is mó is féidir cabhrú linn. Siúl, rothaigh, scátáil, rith, iompar tú féin go poiblí, eagraigh bus siúl. Más é bhur gcéad míle dtoil é, cabhraígí linn trí líon na ngluaisteán a laghdú. Ní bheidh aon pháiste i dtrioblóid as a bheith déanach ar scoil.
One of the most important ways that you can support us during the redevelopment is with regard to travelling to Scoil Lorcáin. It’s imperitive that we reduce the number of cars entering Eaton Square/Belgrave Road. No child will be in trouble for being late.
Can you walk or cycle to school with your children?
Can you use public transport?
Can you car pool with someone making the same journey?
If you have to drive, can you park 5 minutes from Scoil Lorcáin and walk from there?
Can you organise a walking bus?
We’ve had a great response to our initial request with a lot more bikes in evidence and more parents walking with their children or parking on Alma Road and in Belgrave Square. But we need more, and we need to maintain it when the ‘heavy mist’ comes. Please, please, please, please (a record number of pleases for Nuachtlitir Scoil Lorcáin) do what you can.
Tá ailéirge ag páistí sa scoil do chnónna. Roinnt acu is droch-ailéirge atá ann. Iarraimid ar thuismitheoirí gan cnónna, im cnó talún ná leathán seacláide a thabhairt dá bpáistí do lón. B’fhearr linn gan a bheith ag déileáil le frithghníomh anafalachtach.
We have children with an allergy to nuts, some of the allergies are serious. Nuts, peanut butter and chocolate spread are very dangerous for these children. Please don’t use them for your child’s lunch.
D’éirigh go sár-mhaith leis an scéim a bhí againn anuraidh tacaíocht a thabhairt do pháistí i Rang 1 agus 2 trí chabhair a fháil ó thuismitheoirí leis an léitheoireacht ar maidin. Ba mhaith linn tabhairt faoi seo arís i mbliana. Má tá tú sásta éisteacht le léitheoireacht 8.45 – 9.30 maidin amháin sa tseachtain is féidir d’ainm a thabhairt do Rós in Oifig na Scoile. Ní iarrfar ar thuismitheoir éisteacht le léitheoireacht i seomra a bpáiste féin. Beidh ort dul faoi ghrinnfhiosrú Gardaí.
We’re delighted with the success of the scheme we ran last year to support children in Rang 1 and 2 by asking parents to listen to reading in the mornings 8.45 – 9.30 am. If you would like to be involved this year by helping out one morning a week please leave your name with Rós in Oifig na Scoile. You need not have a child in Rang 1 or 2 to be involved. You will not be asked to listen to reading in your own child’s class. You will have to agree to be Garda vetted.
Déanann na múinteoirí sa scoil 36 uair a chloig oibre neamhtheagmhála ar chuid de Chomhaontas Pháirc an Chrócaigh. I measc na mbuntáisti a bhainimid as an am seo tá cruinniú míosúil foirne (10 uair), cruinnithe ullmhúcháin ag tús na scoilbhliana (6 uair), cruinnithe fhorbairt polasaithe (10), cruinnithe tuismitheoirí/múinteoirí (2) agus uaireanta inseirbhíse (8).Dár ndóigh, caitheann na múinteoirí a lán ama lasmuigh den chomhaontas thuasluaite ar imeachtaí den chineál seo agus ar ghníomhíochtaí deonacha eile. Bíonn na cruinnithe againn gach dara Luan tar éis am scoile, go ginearálta.
The teachers in Scoil Lorcáin fulfil 36 hours non-contact hours as part of the Croke Park Agreement. The uses we put these hours to include 10 hours spent on monthly staff meetings, 6 spent on a preparation at the start of the school year, 10 hours spent on policy formation, 2 hours on parent/teacher meetings and 8 on inservice. Of course, the teachers spend many more hours outside of the agreement on activities such as these and on other voluntary work. We usually hold these meetings every second Monday after school time.
Naíonáin Shóisireacha – Dé Máirt agus Déardaoin
Naíonáin Shinsireacha Dé Máirt agus Dé hAoine. Tá Scileann Peile agus Iomána ag na N. Shins le Cionnaith Mac Gearailt ar an Luan go dtí deireadh Mhí na Samhna,
Ba cheart éadaí gleacaíochta agus bróga reatha a chaitheamh ar na laethanta seo. Is feidir éadaí gleacaíochta nó éide scoile a chaitheamh laethanta eile.

Senior Infant PE Days are Tuesday and Friday. The Senior Infants are also doing Football and Hurling Skills with Cionnaith Mac Gearailt every Monday until the end of November. Tracksuits and runners should be worn on these days please. Tracksuit or school uniform may be worn other days.
Tá Dialann Scoile ag gach dalta i Rang 1-6. Iarraimid ar thuismitheoirí an obair bhaile a shíniú agus a sheiceáil gach oíche. Tá Polasaí Obair Bhaile ar ár suíomh idirlín.
Every child in Rang 1-6 has a homework diary – Dialann Obair Bhaile. It should be signed and the homework checked Monday – Thursday. Our Homework Policy is on our website should you need clarification on any issue.
Caithimid a lán dua ag cur brú ar áisínteachtaí stáit foirmeacha dátheangacha a chur ar fáil. Iarraimid oraibh an leagan Gaeilge a úsáid nuair is féidir chun tacú linn. Bain úsáid as an leagan Gaeilge atá ar fáil ar roinnt inneal dáileadh airgid.
We spend a lot of time encouraging Government departments and agencies to provide bilingual literature and forms. Please help us in this by using the Irish version of forms where possible. Why not use the Irish service available on some cash dispensing machines?
Beidh an Grúpa Tuismitheora is Linbh ag tosú arís ar an Aoine 12 Méan Fómhair. Buaileann said le chéile 8.40 – 9.40 sa Halla maidin Aoine chun a bheith ag cleachtadh a gcuid Gaeilge eatarthu féin agus leis na páistí. Fáilte roimh thuismitheoirí nua go speisialta.
Our Parent and Toddler Group will be starting up again on Friday mornings 8.40 – 9.40 am. Children play and parents have an opportunity to practice whatever Irish they have with each other and with the children. New parents are especially welcome.
Iarraimid ar thuismitheoirí gan milseáin ná cístí a chur isteach chuig an rang ar laethanta breithe. Cé gur smaoineamh deas é cruthaíonn sé deacrachtaí éagsúla do na múinteoirí agus tagann sé trasna ar ár bPolasaí Lón Sláintiúil.
We ask parents not to send in sweets or cakes to the class for birthdays. While it is a nice idea it causes some difficulties for the teacher and isn’t supportive our Healthy Eating Policy.
Gabhaimid buíochas libh mar go ndéanann a lán tuismitheoirí iarracht na cuirí a bheith i nGaeilge nó dátheangach. Tá cuirí samplacha ar an Suíomh nua idirlín mar threoir. Níor cheart cuirí as thabhairt amach ar scoil ach nuair atáid i nGaeilge nó dátheangacha agus nuair atá gach buachaill agus/nó cailín sa ranga ag fáil cuireadh.
Thanks to all who make the effort to have Birthday Invitations in Irish or bilingual. It is a very positive step for promoting Irish. We have samples on our website to help with creating Irish cards. Invitations may only be handed out in school when they are in Irish/bilingual and when all the girls and/or boys in the class are being invited.
Tá fáilte roimh thuismitheoirí focal tapaidh a bheith acu le múinteoir idir 8.35 – 8.45 rn. Ba cheart coinne a dhéanamh leis an múinteoir más mian leat ceist éigin a phlé léi/leis. Má théann tú go dtí seomra ranga fág roimh 8.45 rn., le do thoil. Níl an t-am seo oiriúnach chun fadhb a phlé leis an múinteoir.
Parents are welcome to have a quick word with the teacher during any morning 8.35 – 8.45 am. This time is not suitable to discuss a problem. An appointment should be made with the teacher if some issue needs to be discussed. If you go to the classroom with your child please leave by 8.45 so the teacher can continue with her/his work.
Tá beirt mhúinteoirí Uimhearthachta agus Litearthachta againn sa scoil. Is múinteoirí ranga iad na múinteoirí seo, ó cheart, ach nach bhfuil aon seomra ranga againn dóibh. Ionas go bhfaighidh na páistí buntáiste na múinteoirí seo, agus chun luí isteach leis an mbéim atá a cur ar uimhearthacht agus litearthacht ag an Roinn Oideachais agus Scileanna tugann na múinteoirí seo (Solweg Ní Fhiaich Naíonáin – Rang 1 agus Jacinta Nig Shamhráin N Shinsireacha, (Rang 1,5 agus 6) tacaíocht do na múinteoirí ranga sna hábhair sin. Beidh na múinteoirí seo ag obair le páistí de gach cumas sa seomra leis an múinteoir nó le grúpa i seomra éigin eile.
We have two class teachers in Scoil Lorcáín who do not have classes assigned to them because we do not have sufficient classrooms. We have designated them as Literacy and Numeracy Teachers so that children will benefit and to tie in with the Literacy and Numeracy drive from the Department of Education and Science. They will support the class teachers (Solweg Ní Fhiaich Naíonáin – Rang 1 and Jacinta Nig Shamhráin Naíonáin Shinsireacha, Rang 1, Rang 5 agus 6) in implementing our Literacy and Numeracy Strategy. Typically, they will work with groups of mixed ability with the teacher or in another room.
Iarraimid ar thuismitheoirí a chinntiú go bhfuil an éide scoile á caitheamh gach lá. Is féidir an éide scoile nó an chulaith reatha a chaitheamh aon lá. Ba cheart go mbeadh an éide glan agus néata agus gruaig fhada cheangailte siar. Scríobhaigí ainm an pháiste ar gach geansaí agus cóta, le bhur dtoil.
Please ensure that your child is wearing the uniform or the school tracksuit in school. Both are equally acceptable. Clothes should be clean and tidy and long hear tied back. Please write your child’s name on every school jumper and coat.
Bíonn Oifig na Scoile ar oscailt ó 8.35 rn. – 12.15 in. agus ó 12.45 in. – 2.30 in.
The office is open from 8.35 to 12.15. and from 12.45 to 2.30.
Cuimhnigh go gcaithfear nóta a thabhairt don mhúinteoir má tá páiste as láthair. Is ceart na nótaí ar chúl an Dialann Scoile a úsáid do pháistí Rang 1-6. In aon chás, níl aon ghá glaoch ar an scoil chun neamhláithreacht a chur in iúl dúinn muna dtéann sé thar 3 lá.
Please remember that we require a note to explain any absence by a child. The notes at the back of the new school diary should be used for children Rang 1-6. In any case, there is no need to ring the school to inform us of absences unless they extend past 3 days.
Beidh foirne peile againn arís i mbliana, mar is gnáth. Imreoidh na buachaillí Sóisireacha (Rang 5) i gComórtas Chumann na mBunscol gach Máirt do dtí an tSamhain. Imreoidh foireann Shinsireach na mBuachaillí (Rang 6) gach Déardaoin. Imreoidh an tríú foireann buachaillí(Rang 4) gach Déardaoin, chomh maith, i gcomórtas áitiúil Cuala C.L.G. Beidh foireann na gcailíní ag imirt i gComórtas Chumann na mBunscol ar an gCéadaoin. Míle buíochas leis na múinteoirí a bhíonn ag obair go deonach leis na foirne seo go léir. Leanfaidh na cluichí go dtí an briseadh mean téarma ag deireadh Dheireadh Fómhair.
We will have our Girls’ Football team playing on Wednesdays until Halloween, this year. We will also have three boys’ teams, two playing in Cumann na mBunscol competitions – Junior on Tuesday and Senior on Thursday — and one playing in the local Cuala competition on Thursday, also. Thanks to all the teachers who are giving their time voluntarily so that we can field these teams and give so many children an opportunity to play.
Tháinig beirt robálaí faoi thionchar dhrugaí isteach sa chlós an tseachtain seo caite. D’imíodar leo nuair a thug múinteoir aghaidh orthu ach bhriseadar isteach i ngluaisteánróthar Belgrave. Chuireamar fiosa ar na gardaí. Cé go bhfuil an t-ádh linn nach dtarlaíonn a leithéid róí-mhinic, is ceart a bheith cúramach faoi mhálaí is rl agus gan páistí a fhágaint leo féin i ngluaisteáin.
Last week two drug addled thieves entered the school premises but left when challenged by a teacher. They subsequently broke in to a car on Belgrave Road and stole a coat. We’re lucky that these things don’t happen too often. Please be vigilant with regard to personal safety and don’t leave children unattended in your car.
Táimid chun Lá Teangacha a bheith againn ar an 26 Meán Fómhair. Dá bhféadfá seisiún ar aon teanga eile seachas Béarla nó Gaeilge a dhéanamh ba bhreá le Rós Póirtéir nó Bríd Firtéar cloisteáil uait.

Tá brón orainn a rá nach mbeidh aon ranganna iarscoile againn i mbliana de bharr na tógála.
We’re sorry to say we won’t have any after-school classes this year, because of the construction work.
D’éirigh go sár-mhaith leis an Scéim 20 Leabhar. Léigh níos mó na 200 dalta sa scoil 20 leabhar nó níos mó. Míle buíochas le hAisling Uí Fhéich agus Gráinne Uí Lúing as cabhrú leis an scéim a reachtáil. Fuair aon dalta a léigh 15 leabhar dearbhán obair bhaile, agus 20 leabhar 2 dhearbhán obair bhaile.
Our 20 Books of Summer scheme was a great success. Over 200 children Rang 2-6 read 20 or more each. Thanks to Gráinne and Aisling for organising it.

Buíochas le gach éinne a d’íoc sa na leabhair , go speisialta iad siúd a rinne ar líne é. D’éirigh thar barr leis. Tá roinnt bheag tuistí nár íoc go foil.
Thanks to all who paid for their books, especially those who used the on line facility.
It worked very well for us, saving time and energy. There is still a very small amount of parents who have yet to pay.
